Last week I was disappointed at how much money we spent on food. This week, I’m very pleased with how we've done with our meals. We ate well and spent almost nothing. I love it when that happens! We bought only a single 4 litre jug of milk, bringing our month’s grocery spending total to $107.33
Here’s what we ate:
Monday, March 12:
- Breakfast – Eggs, toast, dried apricots
- Supper – Tomato soup “jazzed up” with mashed pinto beans, brown rice, corn, and chili powder served with baked tortilla chips made from leftover wheat and white flour tortillas seasoned with taco seasoning. Tapioca cream pudding for dessert.
Tuesday, March 13:
- Breakfast – Canned peaches, yogurt, applesauce bran muffins
- Supper – Grilled pork steaks, Jack’s favourite rice, carrot and beet latkes, canned pears in brown sugar syrup with ginger.
Wednesday, March 14:
- Breakfast – Peanut butter, marmalade and raisin sandwiches on whole wheat bread
- Supper – Broccoli and cheddar quiche, steamed green beans and carrots, applesauce pie
Thursday, March 15:
- Breakfast – Leftover quiche, apples
- Supper – Salmon loaf, coleslaw, leftover rice from Tuesday, leftover applesauce pie
Friday, March 16:
- Breakfast – Granola, yogurt, prunes
- Supper – Pork and bean pocket breads from the freezer, carrot, apple and raisin salad, canned cherries
Saturday, March 17:
- Breakfast – Poached eggs and creamed spinach on toast
- Supper – Spaghetti alla ceci, chocolate refrigerator cookies
Sunday, March 18:
