Grocers in our area tend to keep prices on staples pretty high during the first week of the month. They know that most people will have received a paycheque the preceding week and will be restocking their pantries, freezers, and utility room shelves. Why on earth mark things down at a time when people actually need them?
(I’m sorry. Did that sound sarcastic?)
Knowing that prices would be higher this week, we had hoped to avoid the stores. We were out of butter and cheese though, so like it or not, we had to go shopping. I was lucky enough to find butter for $2.97/pound (quite a low price for our area) and to purchase the cheese at a reasonable price too. We didn't take as big a hit as we might have. Our spending for the week totaled $38.29.
